Monolith
London, 2005
Placed in the John Madejski garden at the V&A museum, Monolith’s three-metre high, single block of LEDs sit in stark contrast to the ornate, classical architectural environment that forms its backdrop.
In the absence of human interaction, the installation shows soothing colours and plays calming sounds. As visitors approach, the colour and audio increase in intensity, suggesting a temperamental, powerful and sentient presence.
