James Blake - I Need A Forest Fire

2016
James Blake commissioned United Visual Artists to conceive and direct the music video to accompany I Need A Forest Fire, the first release from his 2016 album, The Colour in Anything.
The starting point for the narrative was a discussion with James about the metaphorical and literal walls we construct around ourselves – particularly those of us living in cities – the feelings of constraint and claustrophobia this can cause and the resulting desire to escape and connect with the natural world. The film elaborates on this theme through a series of poetic vignettes that immerse the viewer in a space inhabited by both the real and the imagined. The result is a supernatural, melancholic film that strives to visually interpret the track’s otherworldly, hypnotic qualities.
