In this canvas, the viewer experiences a ghost-like presence as the paintings appear to ‘self-paint’, effectively removing the hand of the artist entirely. On closer inspection, emergent patterns reveal themselves, reminiscent of but not wholly identifiable as textured forms, or perhaps, unimpaired natural shapes, resembling early cyanotype photographic exposures. Confronted with this passive/active inversion, the viewer is invited to consider their own apophenic vocabulary.
